As an Autonomous Institution, Raghu Engineering College has the provision for designing the curriculum to meet the current needs of Industry and academia. The curriculum of the Department of CSE is designed with a proper blend of research and industry-relevant subjects taught through collaborative learning. It has been designed to bridge the gap between Industry and academics and is meticulously reviewed by many industry experts, academicians, and other stakeholders. The Department is working hard in thrust areas of Machine learning, Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, Cyber Security, Full Stack Development, Cloud Computing, Data Science, and Blockchain Technologies. Our curriculum comprises a correct mixture of engineering courses, basic science courses, and management courses. In addition to the final Major project, seminars and mini-projects are included in the curriculum to facilitate the students a platform to implement their learning to solve real-world problems practically.
The department has well-qualified, experienced, and long-standing faculty members holding M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees from reputed Universities. Many of them are pursuing research in thrust areas of computational science such as; Machine learning, Information Security, Blockchain Technology, Cloud computing, Intrusion detection, the Internet of Things, and Artificial Intelligence. The faculty members regularly interact with the students to motivate them toward self-learning, peer learning, and collaborative learning that brings out the best in students and makes their experience in the department memorable.
The Institute has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with different industries, companies, and training organizations to train, assess and provide placement & internship opportunities to the students. The department has a learning hub dedicated to PEGA University academic program (through Talent Sprint), which helps the students learn full-stack development through rigorous training and project implementations. In addition to the external trainers, the department maintains an internal team of experts (CRT team) to regularly train and monitor the students regarding placement-oriented subjects like python programming, Java programming, web technologies, full-stack development, machine learning, aptitude, reasoning, soft skills, and communication skills. The students are trained round the year to participate in competitions like TCS Codevita, Infosys InfyTQ, and Salesforce, which helps them to strengthen their employability skills and placement opportunities. The department regularly conducts seminars, technical talks, workshops, and conferences to make the students understand industry needs and cutting-edge technologies. Industry experts, academicians, and successful alumni are regularly invited to the department to share their experiences through interaction with the students, which boosts the confidence among the students during placement drives. Faculty members suggest students interested in higher studies with corresponding GATE, CAT, MAT, GRE, TOEFL, IELTS, ICET, and AP-PGECET training and counseling.
As technology has changed the way we live and do business, commercial and software industries are facing a dearth of experts in numerous domains of Computer Science. At this juncture, the department offers different specializations to ensure the students achieve the best in both the fields of – Academia and Industry. In addition to the general CSE department, four more specialization courses, such as; Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (AI & ML), Data Science, Cyber Security, and IoT, were added to the department in 2020. Such flexibility will help the student study a well-defined set of courses in the specified domains, thereby providing the required breadth in enormous verticals of Computer Science and engineering verticals.
The Department has a hi-tech learning environment with an adequate number of well-furnished and well-equipped research laboratories for C/ C++ Programming, Java Programming, Python programming, Design and analysis of Algorithms, Web application development, Database Management Systems, Data Mining, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, Information Security and Cryptography, Operating Systems, Object-Oriented Programming, Compiler Design, Computer Networks, Internet and Web Programming, Mobile Computing, Software Testing, High-performance Computing, Modeling & Simulation, .NET Programming, Object-Oriented Software Engineering and many more. These laboratories are facilitated with upgraded hardware, licensed software, a hi-speed Internet connection (wired & wireless), and a pleasant working environment to meet the research requirements of students and faculties.
The department constituted various clubs like a technical club, art club, cultural club, photography club, sports club, and innovation club to support the co-curricular and extra-curricular interests of the students. These clubs comprise student and faculty members who carry out different activities throughout the year. The student volunteers, under the guidance of faculty members, conduct quiz competitions, coding competitions, essay writing competitions, cultural activities, Annual day, Codd’s day, Engineer’s day, Industrial visits, and many more. Students from other colleges in the state and country are invited to showcase their talents in these activities. The winners are encouraged with awards and rewards, whereas the participants are encouraged with certificates that stimulate them for further participation. Our students are always motivated to participate in various competitions, hackathons, workshops, and technical activities conducted by colleges and universities throughout the nation.
The Institute has a registered National Service Scheme (NSS) unit, which comprises student and faculty members of all the departments. Computer Science and Engineering students actively participate in different NSS activities like blood donation, tree plantation, awareness programs, and relief collection & distribution programs whenever required. Such programs aim to sensitize students through inculcating moral and ethical values. Frequent visits are made to nearby villages, old age homes, orphanages, govt. schools to spread awareness and help them feel connected to society for a happier life.
Research and innovation is the primary activity and focus of the Department. Faculty members are dynamic researchers in their respective domains of expertise and lead various departmental clusters. Research within the Department is grouped into six clusters: Cyber Security, Cloud Computing, Data Mining, High-Performance Computing, Software Engineering, and Speech & Image Processing. These clusters are likely to be increased based on the interest of faculty members and dynamic changes in technical requirements in society. These groups are wide open for the interested students to implement their ideas into reality. In addition, the entrepreneurship development cell of the Institute supports the students in building innovative thought processes to become successful incubators and entrepreneurs.

Achievements

The institute is recognized as an autonomous institution by UGC and accredited by NAAC with an ‘A’ Grade for its infrastructure, architecture, teaching, training, and placement standards. As a part of an Autonomous institution, the department has the provision for designing its curriculum based on the current needs of the Industry. The department has created a well-balanced curriculum to make the students learn all the relevant technologies and courses from different disciplines. NBA also accredits the department for maintaining required standards in various aspects of education.
Admission of the students to the department is in high demand because of the high-level training & placement, high-quality teaching using innovative methods, pleasant study environment, interactive faculty members, one-to-one mentoring & counseling, continuous lab and library support, and all-around development opportunities. For the past few years, the admissions in the department have been 100%.
The placement of students in reputed MNCs is one of the best achievements of the department. The rate of placements has been growing exponentially over the last five years. This achievement results from continuous placement-oriented training and assessment by the internal CRT team and external trainers. Some of our regular recruiters are; TCS, Infosys, Amazon, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, Akrivia, and Opentext, among others. The dedicated placement training for students is started from the first year onwards, which helps them in campus placements in their final year.
The department has tied up with Talent Sprint to set up a learning Hub for conducting the PEGA University academic program in which the students are trained practically regarding various aspects of web application development. It also creates better career opportunities for the students.
External and internal trainers provide training on InfyTQ, TCS Codevita, and Salesforce to improve the students’ career opportunities. The Department CRT team regularly monitors and assesses students’ progress during these training sessions.
The department has experienced excellent academic results in the last 5 years. Besides regular classes, tutorial classes, bridge courses, and remedial classes are conducted to deal with slow learners of the department
The department has conducted workshops and faculty development programs funded by funding agencies like DST and AICTE. Faculty members of the department regularly submit project proposals to funding agencies for receiving grants.
The department has a CSI student chapter consisting of students from all over the years, through which many activities like workshops, guest lectures, technical talks, and competitions are conducted throughout the year. Students from other colleges also participate in competitions to showcase their talents.
The final year students are involved in research-oriented projects related to machine learning, data mining, sentimental analysis, IoT, and recommendation systems. They are guided and assisted by faculty members of the department.
Faculty members and students of the department publish their research works and findings in journals and conferences indexed by UGC Care, Scopus, and Web of Science.
Industrial visits to various renowned software and core companies are regularly arranged to pave the way for the students to get exposed to the working atmosphere of reputed companies. All the students are taken to these industry visits every year under the supervision of faculty members of the department.
